Developmental Level Expectations
.
.

Students at the K-2 developmental level must develop the habit of reading frequently, widely, and deeply. Frequent and varied reading helps students build rich vocabulary, acquire background knowledge, master reading skills, and understand text structure. These skills are developed in classrooms that are print rich and provide opportunities for students to read and write in many different genres. Students need to see adults modeling reading and be provided a variety of ways to read and engage with texts: independent reading; assisted reading; being read to; and discussing books.
